"I liked you better dead" he said
in his monotone voice,
leaving no shadow of a doubt
        --nor hope.
"Dead and cold, buried under the rotting foundation of our love."
So I shed my skin,
left it raw and lifeless at your feet, like a rope to hang your trust on
--and hoped it was enough for you.

"I liked you better under the rainy sky", said his eyes,
with an air of reproach for my smile,
bequeathing me the moon and a handful of stars
        --the last walk.
"Rain and clouds, that's all you should need."
So I tightly tied my soul to the oldest tree's branch,
left it no longer basking in the promises brought by each sunrise
--and prayed Time does heal all wounds.

Maybe it's because the ticking clock slashed at my heart,
or because Now is the only time I know,
or because it won't be ok
--even if you are breathing for me
or because of the bruises you put on my body,
--before putting my body on the next train to Reality,
or because "the moon and a handful of stars" cannot change any of it...
But I am not letting you bend me again.
